Charity begins at home for Julie

Julie is arranging a charitable giving event in her constituency to promote the mutual benefits to businesses and charities.

Julie wanted to do something to help the voluntary sector after hearing of potential funding cuts. She hopes that more local businesses will take up the mantle of providing support, as many companies already give to local charities in cash or in kind.

What started as a great idea has evolved into a prestigious event as Bolton Wanderers and Deveres have made the Premier Suite available to Ms Hilling to hold the event. Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and Bolton CVS have generously offered to sponsor the event. Bolton Council has also been instrumental in offering their support to attract businesses along.

As well as promoting charitable giving, the event will launch the successful Bolton CVS bid which was announced last week.

Julie stated “The voluntary and community sector is being seriously hit by savage cuts inflicted by this government. Times are very difficult for charities and community groups who perform such an invaluable service to our community. It has been a goal of mine for some time to host an event which would bring together businesses and the community sector”.

She added “It is wonderful that Bolton CVS have won this bid to forge such links and that they will be working closely with Bolton Wanderers, who are an excellent example of an organisation which does so much for charity. I must also praise the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, who have given a great deal of support to promote the event. I urge businesses, whether large or small, to come along to the event and find out how they can get involved – and to see how contributions of time or money can really help to transform the lives of local residents”.

The ‘Benefitting Business, Benefitting Bolton’ event will be held on 20th April from 2pm at the Premier Suite, Reebok Stadium, Horwich.
