Julie has joined Blackrod ward and town councillors to ask residents to voice their opposition to Bolton’s allocations policy.
The sites ear-marked for potential development by Bolton Council include Blackrod Community Centre and green spaces at Manchester Road and Shawbury Close.
Julie joined Horwich & Blackrod ward councillor Lindsey Kell and Blackrod town councillor Ann Cunliffe to urge residents in Blackrod to sign their petition asking Bolton Council to rethink these plans.
Julie said “Residents have been eager to sign the petition and have their say. This is a campaign which has a lot of support in the area. I really hope that public opposition stops these plans in their tracks”.
Cllr Kell stated “There is a real strength of feeling locally against these proposals. It would be a disaster for Blackrod to lose its Community Centre and vital open spaces. We are prepared for a fight if any of these places are listed as possible housing sites. There is a shortage of affordable housing locally however building on vital public facilities isn’t the answer”.
The consultation for the Allocations Policy ended on 27th January and Bolton Council officials are now collating the responses. Draft proposals will be published once this information has been analysed.
